As always, I'm on top of the news. Except this time. I read several articles on the job market today. They were at least a month old. Apparently, some workers are seeing a light at the end of the recession tunnel. From February to April, more people quit their jobs than were laid off.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said during that time 6.9 million workers voluntarily left their jobs. It's apparently a small uptick, but an uptick nonetheless. It points to better economic times. Some are leaving their jobs for a better ones, others are just leaving.
This doesn't help the millions who are still out of work. It does point to the beginnings of a better economy.
Part of the exodus comes from workers who felt overworked as companies squeezed more out of their employees while laying off others during the recession. AZ Central talked with Razor Suleman. He's a consultant who works with companies to keep their best talent. "There is going to be a mass exodus of the top performers as the economy starts to turn around," said Suleman.
This report came before a recent survey which notes that thirty two percent of the U.S. workforce are seriously considering leaving their jobs. Wouldn't it be interesting that as the economy improves, lots of pent up professional dreams start to get realized.
