Kal Penn - Temporary Reinvention
by Mike Kravinsky

After a two year hiatus, actor Kal Penn is returning to acting. He's known for his roles in "House M.D.","24" and half of the stoner duo in the "Harold and Kumar" film series. Back in 2009 he gave up a lucrative successful Hollywood path to work in the Obama White House as a $40,000 a year associate director for the White House's Office of Public Engagement. He worked in an office with 4 other people.

Penn felt strongly about wanting to be a part of Obama's team. Other actors may take a short break to appear on stage or do a commercial for Obama, Penn gave up two years and moved to D.C.

In an exclusive interview with Jake Tapper of ABC News, Penn talks of how difficult political change really is.

"If it was as easy to flip on a light switch and change everything, someone would have done it before ... it's actually a very laborious process, it's very slow. I wouldn't say it's disillusionment, I would say it's understanding the process,"

He also discusses professional change. Now returning to acting, Penn has been signed to a reoccurring role in "How I Met Your Mother"

Here's the interview that Tapper did.
