John-Louis Hecht was tired of people knocking on his door after hours to buy his baguettes. The baker lives above his store. His solution? He created a vending machine that not only sells the French staple but bakes them in seconds.
The partially baked bread is heated to completion in his vending machine. For 1euro ($1.42) the bread has been a hit. Although some purists doubt that it will catch on, Hecht thinks this is the wave of the future. His first machine went into operation in his hometown of Hombourg-Haut in January. The second is in his store in Paris.
Doubters aside, the first month he sold 1,600 baguettes and almost 4500 in July.He has patents pending for his invention.
