Thanks for visiting Nextnik.com. My name is Mike Kravinsky. Nextnik is about the next act, the professional or personal reinvention.

The idea for Nextnik developed because I'm starting over as well.

I left ABC News September 2010 after 29 years. I worked as a video editor and technical director for pretty much all the network news shows that had a presence in Washington, D.C. It was a great run. Even though the hours were long from time to time, there was some cool travel, interesting people, I witnessed history up close occasionally, and generally had a good time.

So why did I leave? The news industry isn't what it was back when I started in 1981. It was time to make a choice on whether to stay put and work in the "new world" of news or move on. I decided to leave, take my experience and try something new. Nextnik.com.

I've come across all sorts of people, who like me, quit secure or not very secure jobs. Some were fired or laid off. They then decide to follow a dream that has potential. Often having to take a chance on their new life. Sometimes it's not even about money, but rather personal satisfaction.  Small business, the arts, travel, whatever that new passion is.

I'm always looking for stories of people who've made the leap or the cultual trends that may affect us.  Send them along. I promise to read them.
