Living Life On The Road

Would you give up your home to live full-time on the road?

by Mike Kravinsky

A few years ago my wife and I bought a small RV, actually tiny by American RV standards, just 21 feet. We really made use of it for several years. One of the great things about it's size, was that we could go places the bigger ones could.

Liza, who has a background as a musician, composer and touring with bands, really enjoyed being on the road. It reminded her of the days going from gig to gig. We even had several conversations about selling the house and living the road life. I always wanted a place with a foundation, to Liza, that wasn't so important.

As time went on though, we found that it was always nice to get back to the home with the foundation after a couple weeks on the road. In an RV, being on the road was like being at home when it came to chores like washing dishes, making beds, cleaning the house. Just less room to do it in.  It was great getting out on the road, but then, It was always great to sleep back in the familiar bed.

Don't get me wrong, I think if you set it up right, the RV life can be great, but, we found that if we wanted to be on the road, B&B's, hotels and hanging with family in other cities was what we wanted.  So, we sold Harvey the RV.

Now that being said, I found the story of two women who call the road home. They did indeed move from their foundation and have created a career while traveling the country and changing their scenery.

Take a look at this AARP story. They love it. Do you think you could live that life?
